News - Mel Maria wins the sydney tournament of the minds international stem finals

Every child is given the opportunity to engage in hands-on experiences with a diverse range of technologies. These experiences are designed to be developmentally appropriate and aligned with contemporary learning practices, ensuring that students build confidence and competence as they progress through their schooling.

By the end of Year 6, students will have explored and interacted with a wide array of tools and platforms, including:

  • OSMO for interactive learning and literacy
  • Bee Bots to introduce foundational coding and sequencing
  • STEM kits to support inquiry-based science and engineering
  • Spheros for robotics and programming challenges
  • iStopMotion for animation and storytelling
  • Coding platforms such as Scratch and Swift Playgrounds
  • Robotics systems to develop computational thinking
  • Drones for real-world applications in mapping and design
  • CAD drawing tools to foster spatial reasoning and design thinking

And much more.

Throughout their time at Mel Maria, students will progressively build their digital skill set, with technology serving as a powerful tool to facilitate learning, enhance engagement, and prepare them for the future. Our goal is to nurture digitally literate learners who are confident, creative, and capable of thriving in an increasingly technological world.

BYOD Program

The school has a BYOD Apple iPad program from Years Three to Six. iPads allow our students to become authors, movie directors, graphic designers, coders and artists. The iPad enables students to develop technology skills using both Apple and Microsoft tools. iPads do not replace teaching. Teachers still teach and students still use pen and paper and read books from the school library.
