CPSSA ‘A’ DIVISION ATHLETICS CARNIVAL

CPSSA ‘A’ DIVISION ATHLETICS CARNIVAL

Last week an 81-strong team of Mel Maria students attended the CPSSA ‘A’ Division Athletics Carnival at the WA Athletics Stadium. A rare fine day saw our students compete in Track and Field Events against other Catholic School from the metropolitan area. Our students acquitted themselves amazingly well, performing strongly across the board whether they were jumping, throwing or running. The team spirit was on show again, as our school retained the title of loudest cheerers, driving our runners from the start line and the final bend of the longer races.

At the end of the day, our students waited nervously for the overall result. Our girls finished second behind St Brigid’s College, and our boys finished second as well behind St Columba’s. These two outstanding results lifted us to our seventh overall victory in nine years in the ‘A’ Division competition which is a truly amazing result. It also completed another clean sweep of Interschool carnivals, having won the Swimming and Cross Country carnivals this year as well. The last time the school achieved this was 2019, and technically last year when only the Interschool Athletics was held due to COVID. It was a great reward fro the hard work of our students in the lead up to the day and during the event.
